Power System & Battery Performance

The 1782C-B runs on our proven 20-volt lithium-ion battery system that delivers fade-free power from the first hole to the last. Unlike older nickel-cadmium batteries, our lithium technology holds its charge during storage and delivers consistent torque throughout the entire discharge cycle.
The included 1.5Ah battery provides approximately 150-200 screws per charge in typical residential applications, while the compact charger fully recharges the battery in about 60 minutes. The battery slides into the base with a secure locking mechanism and includes an integrated fuel gauge so you always know your remaining runtime. For extended jobs or commercial use, our cordless tool lineup shares the same battery platform, and additional 20V battery packs are available separately to eliminate downtime between charges.
Drilling Capacity & Speed Control

We engineered the dual-speed transmission to handle both high-torque driving applications and precision drilling tasks. The low-speed setting (0-350 RPM) delivers maximum torque for driving large screws into dense materials like hardwood or metal studs, while the high-speed setting (0-1,350 RPM) tackles drilling applications in wood, metal, and plastic.
Maximum Drilling Capacities
The 1782C-B drills through wood up to 1 inch thick, steel up to 3/8 inch, and handles self-tapping screws from #4 to #10 gauge. The 21-position adjustable clutch lets you dial in precise torque settings to prevent overdriving screws and stripping materials. Simply rotate the collar to select your desired clutch setting, or switch to drill mode for full power when boring holes.
Chuck System & Bit Compatibility

The 3/8-inch single-sleeve keyless chuck accepts any standard hex-shank or round-shank bit with diameters up to 3/8 inch. We chose the single-sleeve design because it allows one-handed bit changes while maintaining a secure grip that won’t slip under load.
The chuck body features aggressive knurling for positive grip even with gloved hands, and the internal jaws are machined for concentricity to minimize wobble and vibration. Your kit includes a magnetic double-ended screwdriver bit (#2 Phillips and 1/4-inch slotted) to get you started immediately. The chuck is reversible via the direction switch located above the trigger, making it simple to back out screws or remove stuck bits.

Common Questions About the 1782C-B Drill Driver
Yes, the 1782C-B handles typical deck construction tasks including drilling pilot holes and driving 3-inch deck screws into treated lumber. The dual-speed transmission provides adequate torque for most residential framing and outdoor projects. For all-day professional deck building with lag bolts or structural fasteners, you may want to consider our higher-torque impact driver for faster results and reduced fatigue.
Absolutely. The 1782C-B is part of our universal 20-volt battery platform, so any Bauer 20V lithium-ion battery will fit and power the drill regardless of amp-hour capacity. If you own other tools in our cordless lineup, you can swap batteries between them freely. Higher-capacity batteries like our 3.0Ah and 4.0Ah packs will extend your runtime significantly compared to the included 1.5Ah battery.
The 21 numbered clutch settings limit the maximum torque to prevent overdriving screws and damaging materials. When the clutch engages, you’ll hear a clicking sound and the chuck stops rotating even though you’re holding the trigger. This is ideal for driving screws into drywall, cabinets, or delicate trim. Drill mode (indicated by the drill bit icon) bypasses the clutch entirely and delivers full power continuously for boring holes through wood, metal, and plastic.
The included 1.5Ah battery recharges from fully depleted to 100% in approximately 60 minutes with the supplied charger. The charger features LED status indicators that show charging progress and turn green when the battery is ready. Partially discharged batteries charge proportionally faster. We recommend keeping a spare battery on hand for extended projects so you can swap and continue working while the depleted battery recharges.
The drill handles steel studs up to 3/8-inch thickness with appropriate metal drill bits and cutting fluid for best results. For masonry applications like concrete or brick, you’ll need a hammer drill or rotary hammer instead. The 1782C-B is a standard drill driver without the percussive hammering action required to efficiently penetrate masonry materials. It excels at wood, plastic, and light metal drilling where hammer function isn’t necessary.
The 1782C-B does not include a belt clip or hanging hook from the factory. However, the body features molded mounting points where aftermarket belt clips can be installed if desired. The included carrying bag provides secure storage and transport with dedicated pockets for the battery, charger, and bits when you’re moving between job sites or storing the tool between projects.
Yes, the variable speed trigger and adjustable clutch make the 1782C-B suitable for automotive fastener removal and installation. The compact size allows access to tight engine compartments and undercarriage areas. For rusted or high-torque bolts, an impact driver provides more effective removal force. The drill works well for interior trim panels, license plate mounting, and general maintenance tasks where precision control is more important than maximum torque.
